🟢 DAY 1 — Sembalun Village → Plawangan Sembalun Crater Rim
The Savanna Ascent
Your adventure begins in the cool morning air of Sembalun Village (1,156m), nestled in a vast volcanic valley surrounded by rolling green hills. After a light breakfast and briefing, you'll set foot on the trail — the first hours winding through iconic savanna grasslands with panoramic views of Mount Rinjani's peak dominating the horizon.
The terrain begins gently, allowing you to warm up as you pass through Pos 1 and Pos 2, where wild cows and the occasional monkey can be spotted. After Pos 3 (Pada Balong), the real climb begins — a steady, challenging ascent through increasingly sparse vegetation as you approach the treeline.
By late afternoon, you'll reach Plawangan Sembalun Crater Rim (2,639m) — your campsite for the night. As the sun sets, watch the sky explode in orange and pink over Segara Anak Lake far below, with the smouldering cone of Gunung Baru volcano rising from the crater. This is one of the most spectacular sunset views in Indonesia.

🔴 DAY 2 — Summit Attack (3,726m) → Segara Anak Lake
The Summit & The Sacred Lake
This is the day you came for. The alarm goes off at 1:30 AM under a canopy of stars. After hot coffee and a light snack, you'll strap on your headlamp and begin the legendary summit push — a steep, relentless climb over volcanic scree and gravel in the dark.
The route to the summit is a mental and physical test: two steps up, one step sliding back on the loose volcanic sand. But as the first light of dawn breaks behind you, painting the sky in gold and purple, every step becomes worth it. You'll reach the true summit at 3,726 meters just as the sun crests the horizon — a 360° panorama stretching from Bali's Mount Agung in the west to Sumbawa Island in the east.
After summit celebrations, you'll descend back to camp for a well-earned breakfast, then continue down a steep, dramatic trail into the crater itself — arriving at Segara Anak Lake (2,008m). Spend the afternoon soaking in natural hot springs rich in minerals that ease every ache, exploring hidden caves, or simply sitting by the lake's edge watching Gunung Baru puff smoke in the distance. Camp tonight is right by the water.

This is where the adventure takes a lush, green turn. Unlike the dry savanna of Sembalun, the Torean valley is dense tropical rainforest: giant ferns, hanging vines, the sound of exotic birds, and crystal-clear streams. The trail follows a river valley with multiple refreshing river crossings.
Along the way, you'll pass the stunning Penimbungan Waterfall and several smaller cascades — perfect spots for a quick cooling shower. The porter team will prepare lunch beside a beautiful stream.
By late afternoon, you'll reach a secluded rainforest camp deep in the Torean valley — a magical setting for your final night on Rinjani. Dinner under the jungle canopy, with the sounds of nature all around you.
